Abstract:Solid-state zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) hold great promise for sustainable and high-safety energy storage systems. However, the development of solid-state ZIBs is severely hindered by the lack of ideal solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) with high zinc-ion transference number and effective dendrite growth inhibition ability. Herein, we synthesize a three-dimensional cyclodextrin-based porous polymer (CN-CDP) via the cross-linking reaction of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) with tetrafluoroterephthalonitrile (TFT). The obtained CN-CDP is incorporated into pol- yvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) to fabricate CN-CDP/PVDF solid polymer electrolyte to address the mentioned is- sues. The CN-CDP/PVDF electrolyte effectively lowers the zinc-ion diffusion barrier and expedites zinc-ion migration, achieving a high zinc-ion transference number of 0.80 and a satisfactory ionic conductivity of 6.7 × 10?4 S cm?1 at room temperature. Moreover, this electrolyte can guide the uniform deposition of Zn2+ along the Zn (002) crystal plane, thereby suppressing the growth of zinc dendrites. The assembled symmetrical batteries realize highly reversible dendrite-free plating/stripping behavior, delivering stable cycling for 2000 h at 2 mA cm?2 and 1400 h at 5 mA cm?2. Density functional theoretical (DFT) calculations and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are further employed to clarify the underlying working mechanism of the CN-CDP/PVDF electrolyte. This work offers a feasible strategy for the rational design of high-performance solid electrolytes toward next- generation advanced zinc-ion batteries.
